Welcome to the GoFundMe Community!

At GoFundMe, we're proud to be a place where people come together to help one another. Every day, we see incredible stories of generosity, resilience, and connection and we’re honored to be part of that journey with you.

As we continue to grow this global community of support, we’re excited to welcome new people into the conversation. Whether you're here to give, share, organize, or simply learn more, we want this space to be as helpful, respectful, and uplifting as the people who power it.

We empower our community to have control over their experience on our platform. This means that users may remove content, or block other users who they do not wish to interact with. For example, if a rude comment is posted on a Fundraiser, the Organizer may remove it. Similarly, if you receive an unwanted or abusive message, you may block that sender.

Our platform keeps you safe through a tiered moderation system that drives compliance with our Terms of Service. While we encourage our community to shape their GoFundMe experience, we also maintain safeguards to ensure that all interactions - messages, comments, and posts - remain safe and respectful. Our AI-enabled moderation tools proactively flag and remediate potential issues, and our global Trust & Safety team provides expert oversight and human support when needed.

  • All content is screened for potential violations of our Terms of Service and applicable policies
  • Content may be held for review when our system detects potential misuse until an analyst can review it
  • Content may not be sent if it violates our Terms of Service
  • For more serious violations, you may temporarily lose access to certain features
  • For severe misconduct or illegal activity, you may permanently lose access to certain features, or to your entire GoFundMe account.

This framework ensures that actions are proportionate. To meet transparency and legal requirements, users are informed of restrictions and provided with an appeals process. These practices reflect our broader commitment to user safety, operational clarity, and compliance across all regions.

While our users are empowered to remove content from their pages, our team also removes certain content if it is against our Terms of Service or any relevant law. We’ve compiled some examples to help further explain:

Acceptable

Unacceptable

Spam

Sharing details on how to get in contact with resources for a user in need.

Promoting or sending your fundraiser to people you don’t know.

Harassment

Asking for clarity about someone’s fundraiser or situation.

Telling someone they don’t deserve donations because you disagree with the cause.

Advertising goods/services

Offering in-kind support, such as food and clothes after a housefire, or a recommendation for help and resources.

Offering money to create or improve a fundraiser.

Advertising a business or any sale of goods/service unless directly related to the fundraiser.

Legal defense

Mentioning that funds are being raised to defend against charges associated with a non-violent or non-financial crime. This encompasses most property crimes, and most crimes that involve paying a fine.

Stating a fundraiser is for the legal defense of charges associated with a violent, sexual, or financial crime.

Adult content

Stating you work in the adult content industry but are raising funds for an unrelated reason.

Offering to share adult content if people donate.

Raffles/gambling

Mentioning raffles or gambling when the fundraiser itself is not a game of chance. For example, stating proceeds from a raffle at work are going to be donated to a fundraiser.

Promising that donations will go towards raffle entries or for some other form of gambling.

Bullying/hate

Stating you’re a member of a controversial organization but your fundraiser is for a family member’s medical bills.

The use of a racist slur against an individual.

Platform Bypass

Stating there is another fundraiser for a specific cause on Facebook.

Actively trying to get users to chat or use another payment method off-platform.

Privacy

Sharing, through a private message, the first name and phone number of an individual who is going through the same issue, to facilitate contact.

Sharing full names, phone numbers, emails, or other sensitive personal details publicly on a comment or post.

We love when people ask questions, trade fundraising tips, and share what’s worked for them. It’s great to see open conversations - that’s how we learn and grow together! Just remember to keep things respectful and kind even when you don’t see eye to eye, refrain from spamming other users, and ask yourself how you’d feel receiving that message.

In the event that you experience any restriction on your account that you believe to have been made in error, please reply to our message alerting you to the restriction. This will open an appeal and your account will receive a human review.

Continued Dedication

We will continue to update our Transparency Center to ensure users have access to our most current and relevant policies and information. Thank you for being part of our community of more than 150 million people helping each other.
